TNBA/HBCU Invitational Collegiate Tournament
The first TNBA/HBCU Invitational Collegiate Tournament was held March 156-17, 2019 in D’lberville, Mississippi. It was live streamed on YouTube; the competition was fierce and the tournament was a tremendous success! It was hosted by TNBA along with and the Jackson State University. Participating schools included Alabama A&M, Alabama State University (ASU), Florida A&M (FAMU), Grambling State University, Jackson State University (JSU), Southern University (SU), Texas Southern (TSU) and Virginia State University.
After 2 days of competitive bowling, Sunday’s best four found Florida’s FAMU facing Mississippi’s JSU and Alabama’s ASU facing Louisiana’s Southern University ; and the shootout began. After several series of Baker style bowling, rolling the best 4 out of 7 games and after the smoke cleared, Jackson State University came out on top for 1st place and Alabama outlasted Southern University for third place. Congratulations FAMU for winning 2nd place in the TNBA/HBCU Invitational!!
TNBA’s Belinda Matthews who was there to witness and support the tournament says “Thank God for traveling grace. I was blessed to be a part of a historical event. There was a total of 8 HBCUs that participated and the bowling by these collegiate young ladies was outstanding.” Coach of the year was Vicky and Doc Boykins from JSU.
Life member, Betty Kates was also there to offer her assistance. She says “The events of the weekend were super. Glad to have been a part of putting it together with the team” Our hats are off to Dr. Michael Boykins, TNBA Collegiate Director 
Keith Bridgeforth, Belinda Matthews, Betty Kates, Daniel Jackson III and the rest of the team for putting on an outstanding tournament. Great job Doc, job well done!!
